Recovery is not a passive state — it is an active physiological process. Between training sessions, metabolic stress, or simply the accumulated wear of daily life, the body relies on circulation, mitochondrial energy production, and the nervous system to repair tissue and restore balance. The Recovery Program at Hertitude brings together three distinct but complementary modalities — Red Light Therapy, Cryochamber, and Power Plate — into a single, medically guided protocol designed to support the body’s natural recovery pathways from multiple angles at once.
Each modality works through a different physiological mechanism. Combined, they address recovery at the cellular, circulatory, and neuromuscular level.
Red Light Therapy: Supporting Cellular Energy Production
Red Light Therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light (typically in the 600–850 nm range) that penetrate the skin and are absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase, an enzyme within the mitochondrial electron transport chain. This interaction is understood to support ATP (cellular energy) production, while downstream effects may include improved local circulation, modulation of inflammatory signaling, and support for tissue repair processes. In a recovery context, this makes Red Light Therapy a tool for addressing fatigue and tissue stress at the cellular level, rather than only at the level of symptoms.
Cryochamber: Modulating Inflammation and the Nervous System
Whole-body cryotherapy exposes the body to extremely cold air for a short, controlled duration — typically two to three minutes. This brief cold exposure triggers vasoconstriction at the skin and superficial tissue level, followed by vasodilation as the body rewarms, a cycle associated with improved clearance of metabolic byproducts and inflammatory mediators. Cryotherapy also activates the sympathetic nervous system, producing a measurable rise in norepinephrine, which has been associated with modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokine activity and with subjective improvements in alertness and mood. Within a recovery protocol, the Cryochamber is used to help manage the inflammatory load associated with physical or metabolic stress and to support a shift toward parasympathetic (rest-and-repair) nervous system activity afterward.
Power Plate: Neuromuscular Activation and Circulatory Support
The Power Plate uses whole-body vibration, delivered through a rapidly oscillating platform, to trigger reflexive, involuntary muscle contractions many times per second. This neuromuscular stimulation is understood to support microcirculation and lymphatic flow, partly through vibration-induced endothelial shear stress that promotes nitric oxide production and vasodilation. Clinically, this combination of muscle activation and enhanced circulation is used to support lymphatic drainage, reduce the sensation of muscle stiffness, and prepare tissue for the recovery processes stimulated by the other modalities in the program.
Why Combine the Three
Used in isolation, each modality addresses one layer of the recovery process — cellular energy, inflammatory and autonomic regulation, or circulation and lymphatic flow. Sequencing them within a single medically supervised session is intended to allow each modality to support the effects of the others: for example, using Power Plate to stimulate circulation and lymphatic flow before or after cold exposure, or pairing Red Light Therapy with cryotherapy to support tissue-level repair once the acute inflammatory response has been modulated. As with any multi-modal protocol, sequencing and duration are individualized based on the patient’s health status, goals, and current physiological markers, rather than applied as a fixed formula.
Who This Program Is Designed For
The Recovery Program is suited to individuals managing high training loads, chronic physical stress, or the cumulative effects of a demanding lifestyle, as well as those integrating recovery support into a broader metabolic or longevity program. As with all Signature Programs at Hertitude, candidacy is determined through medical assessment. Certain conditions — including uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, cold-intolerance disorders such as Raynaud’s phenomenon, pregnancy, photosensitivity or photosensitizing medication use, recent fractures, or acute cardiovascular events — may require modification or exclusion of specific modalities, which is why the program begins with a physician consultation rather than direct booking.
A Program Within a Larger Framework
At Hertitude Clinic, the Recovery Program is not positioned as a stand-alone quick fix, but as one component that can be integrated into a personalized longevity or metabolic optimization plan, alongside diagnostics, regenerative therapies, or peptide protocols where clinically appropriate. The goal is the same principle that underlies all Signature Programs at the clinic: addressing the body’s underlying physiology, rather than treating recovery as a single, isolated event.
